Shiva: Temperance

Temperance is the card which teaches of the importance of finding balance between two different opposing forces. Temperance understands duality and also the need to find harmony within our dual natures. Shiva is most widely known as the destroyer, but it is from his destruction that a new world may be born again, as death brings forth life. In one of the aspects of Shiva he is shown beckoning forth with one hand, inviting us to approach bidding us not to have fear, while in his other hand he holds a snake which is a warning and reminder of his awesome power and true nature. Another aspect of Shiva depicts him as being half-man and half-woman. Shiva is balanced between opposing forces, the ability to destroy and the ability to create. He remains calm and serene in his posture.
