The lines between waking
and dreaming become blurred,
I have nowhere left to turn,
because everywhere I look
I see him watching, waiting,
in grotesque serenity,
diabolical calmness,
his eyes remain cold,
obsidian, distant, untouched,
but his smile,
his smile
makes my blood freeze,
my heart begin to palpitate,
and all I want to do is run,
but as soon as I turn around,
he is still grinning
from ear to ear,
like he is ready to eat my soul,
pick his teeth with my bones,
and I can no longer remember
if I want to scream myself awake,
or close my eyes and try and go back to sleep,
there is no wishing him away,
he lurks within my consciousness,
he smiles
because he knows he has all the time in the world
I know I was doomed
from the first moment I laid eyes upon
his slashed open grin
it would now
forever live within my mind.

Part of this was inspired by this movie I saw as a little kid. I cannot recall what it was called now, it was an old black and white film, and the one thing I still clearly recall about it was this scene of this man who had this big grin on his face that was the most chilling thing I have ever seen.
