These living ghosts
of ours follow us
through life,
more haunting than
the true dead,
they exist in a space
between life and death,
refusing to release their hold
upon us.

We search for
allusive clues,
most imagined,
seeking grains of understanding,
expecting them
to reappear
we look for their faces
catching phantom
glimpses.
