The reign of the Summer King fades, as sun sets on day
soon will be the time to release his spirit, his bones born away,
winter draws near now is the time to set the bonfires alight
watch the orange-yellow glow climb into the cold eternal night,
with it the Old Stag has withered and turns gray.

Buried deep beneath the Earth his body will decay,
women gather round, flowers woven in their hair, to dance and sway,
time to harvest the crops and prepare for winter's plight,
summer fades.

The ritual knife is blessed, ready to follow the ancient way,
with the blood of the Summer King for our good fortune we pay,
with hope our sacrifice will lesson winter's might,
drink the last of summer's warm wine, still your heart against fright,
on this final hour we come together and to the Goddess pray,
summer fades.
In the legend of the Summer King it is believed that in some early matriarchal cultures in the spring time a king would be chosen as symbolic of the union between the God and the Goddess, and in this time of fertility to bring new life to the people. When summer came to an end the Summer King would then be sacrificed and his blood fed to the Earth as a way of giving things to the Earth for what the people have reaped from her, as well as a way of returning back to the Earth they life of which they have taken her. The Earth sacrificed to the people so now the people sacrifice to the Earth.

Oh how the better life would be were these sorts of customs rebuilt. They really ought to make you propaganda mistress, or something. Life would be a lot better if we had you to script some public opinions... then I might not want to punch a whole lot of folks when I go to school.

Do you perchance ever play videogames?
