Killer Inside Me

When I slip into my slumber
on dark moonless nights,
to drift away into the realm
of Morpheus,

it is not alabaster skin
I crave, nor dashing good looks,
raven tresses, endless obsidian eyes,
I do not dream of perfected
beauty trapped within time.

When I close my eyes
and set my mind free I have
no desires for immortality,
no grail quests,
death is no fear to me.

Instead, when I long
for the bloody kiss,
the curse and the gift,
to be transcended into a
Child of the Night,
a soulless being
not alive and not dead

it is blood that I see,
life slipping away from
a victim's eyes, the power
held within my hand to
decide who is worthy to
live and who must die.

To be a death dealer
as I walk among you like
a passing shadow, and know
I am the puppet master,
it is my right to choose
to snip the cord at any time,
and snatch a soul away.

I have no vanity for
unchanging beauty,
I have not the pride
for living an eternity,

nor do I romanticize
about a Dark Prince
to sweep me off into the
moonrise.

I dream of vampires
because I hunger for the
very base reasons of
a free license to kill.
I wanted to write a different sort of poem about vampires. Typically today when vampires are portrayed the issue of the having to kill is made into a moral dilemma.

Those who wish to "humanize" thier vampires of make them the heroes of the story, make them self-loathing, remorseful, reluctant etc... about having to kill.

Or they make vampires who don't have to kill to live.

So I said, what if the killing was completely embraced?

David (actual vampire): you get a sociopathic killer who enjoys what he does as well as an actual vampire.
