Literature Text

I am broken
standing upon the shards of broken glass
I once believed
that I was bullet proof
and I watched the world
as it ricocheted away
while I remained unscathed
and laughing
at myself
and those whom once
believed they could
find the weak points in my armor casing,
but I caught a glimpse
of your reflection
in the mirror
staring through me,
and my eyes were yours.
My voice but a whisper
spoke with the weight
of a soprano's solo
the fractures slowly at first
than ever growing
spread like the veins of spider webs
and your image
began to fall away,
I could do nothing but watch
it sliding down the wall
erupting in so many
splintering shards
I would welcome the warm taste
of blood.
You who were like my shadow
and my soul,
have left me with this unfilled void,
and now when I try to seek
my reflection
like one of the dead
I know I will see nothing
but the hallow space
which once you occupied.

"Mirror"

I have been trying to decide what to do with this one, having trouble because it is such a cliched subject, I wanted to avoid all the more common uses of the image when I decided to integrate the image in this venting of mine.

The concept was inspired by the story by Aristophanes, a Greek Playwrite whom said that once we were created as two people male/male, female/female, male/female. When the gods became angry they split man apart so everyone is only half a person, and spend their lives seeking their other half so they may become complete again.

I lost a few souls the recently. Their names: Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood.

Unfortunate.

But I guess losing half a soul isn't too pleasant either. YMMW.
