Ecophobia

Throat tightens
breath stops,
my heart begins
to palpitate,
trapped within
surrounded by
menace, I feel
them all watching me,
a metallic gleam
fire yawning within
ready to devour me,
the glint of knives,
all pointed at me,
wanting to flay me alive,
the very floor
beneath my feet
begins to crawl,
and there is no where to run,
I know the trickery
of open doors
appearing so sinisterly
inviting, wanting
me to come in,
to shut me up,
leave me caged,
I feel the walls
closing in,
if only I could break free,
I see freedom not so far away,
but so many monsters
lurking between
how will I make it to safety
there is a guard that stands
impenetrable between
me and the world.
